How it works

Zakat is due on wealth you've held for one lunar year that meets the nisab threshold. The rate is 2.5% of your net zakatable wealth.

  • Add your cash, gold, silver, investments, business stock and receivables.
  • Subtract debts and liabilities to get net wealth.
  • If net wealth ≥ nisab (silver standard), zakat = 2.5% of net wealth.

Frequently asked questions

How much zakat do I pay?

Zakat is 2.5% of your net zakatable wealth (assets minus liabilities) once it stays at or above the nisab for a full lunar year.

What is the nisab in 2026?

The nisab is the value of 612.36 grams of silver (the lower, more inclusive standard). At current estimated rates that is roughly Rs 340,000 — it changes with silver prices.

Which assets are zakatable?

Cash, gold, silver, investments, business stock, and money owed to you that you expect to recover. Personal use items (home, car, clothes) are excluded. Debts you owe are subtracted.

Gold or silver nisab — which should I use?

Most scholars recommend the silver nisab because it is lower, so more people qualify to give zakat. This calculator uses the silver standard.

Gold and silver rates are estimates and change daily. Confirm nisab and rates with a scholar or your local mosque before paying.
